W.J. Zahnow Elementary School provides tuition-based preschool options for parents residing in the Waterloo School District. Our program is a needs-based program first for those students meeting our criteria. We have two days of screening to determine eligibility. There is one screening held in March and one held in July. The dates are posted on our website ( wcusd5.net ) and in the newspapers at a date closer to the screenings.
Our Pre-K Program offers two half-day sessions. The morning session is from 8:00-10:45am Monday through Friday and the afternoon sessions is from 11:45am-2:30pm Monday through Friday. Enrollment is limited to 20 students per session.
Our community does not meet the demographic criteria established by the state of Illinois to receive funding for our program. In order to continue our Pre-K classes, a tuition fee has been assessed if your family does not qualify for a financial waiver. The fee is based on a rate of $10 per day, averaged into nine equal payments. The amount will be $183 per month for the morning class and $177 for the afternoon class. The difference in fee is due to half days for teacher in service and training.
If you feel your child might benefit from our Pre-K program or if you have any questions, please contact our office at (618) 939-3458.
