We follow the same order of activities every day, but we do not always take the same amount of time on each activity. This is how our day usually goes:
Arrival--Children are greeted and encouraged to remove their coats, check their school bags and hang them up independently.
Pledge of Allegiance
Morning Music - Mrs. Ryterski's introduction of musical composers and their music
Small group--The children participate in one of four structured activities in a group with four to five other children. The children complete one activity per day and rotate activities daily. On the fifth day the children choose a book from the classroom library.
Circle time--Children will discuss the date and weather, check a daily job chart and review the schedule for the day. Group activities at circle time will relate to a theme (fall, dinosaurs, etc.). Books, songs, games and finger plays will be shared. At the end of circle time the children will plan their activities for centers time.
Centers time--Children will carry out the activities they have chosen in the various interest centers. There will be one or two teacher-guided activities for the children to choose from (games, art projects, as well as child initiated centers. Centers in the classroom will include, blocks, pretend play, art, sensory table, listening, table toys, writing, science and library. Centers materials and activities will change throughout the school year.
Large group--Children will participate in large group music and movement activities daily. Once a week they will go to the library for story time. Occasionally an educational theme-related video will be shown.
Snack time--A nutritious snack and drink will be served. This is a good time to develop social skills and good manners, as well as to discuss nutrition and different types of foods.
Playground--When weather permits, the children will go to the playground. Please be sure your child is dressed for the weather and wears appropriate shoes for running and climbing.
Dismissal--Children will talk about the day's activities and plans for tomorrow. Independence will be encouraged in packing school bags and putting on jackets. Children will be walked to buses or cars to go home.
